I wanted to take a moment and write about an amazing tradition I saw yesterday! On the first day of school, a student and their family and friends went out for a celebratory breakfast! It was the first day of back to college, as an adult in their late 20s returned to school after a break. What an outstanding decision! What an amazing family! What an awesome group of friends who celebrated an achievement! As many of my friends and family do, they take back to school photos- to celebrate their little one's first day in a grade. We need traditions, we need support, we need love- why? As humans, we crave to know how we move from one phase of our life to another! We seek advice and guidance on our journey, a way station, a light house in the dark! Our trails are void of guidance if we are "meeh" or "whatevs" by our team, our leaders, or family. It is crucial, it is necessary, it is important to mark milestones, celebrate, and acknowledge a different phase along our journey. For humans, the first four years are marked by family. The next 12-13 years are formal primary and secondary schooling. We then start a 50 year journey in work, or we transition to formal third tier schooling. For many, the boundary between work and school can flux, as needs, thoughts, and situations vary. Anytime part of our journey is complete, make sure to celebrate with a tradition- help mark the achievement of great or small journeys. Bowman and Deal, in their work "Re framing Organizations" remind leaders that small wins, with celebrations, carry momentum for bigger, tougher, more difficult tasks. Without celebrations, the story of why in an organization is lost. Drucker also reminds us that "culture eats strategy for breakfast." I am very appreciative of the idea that a winning culture will be a strategy any day. Id also like my readers to know that I have a book out from Edumatch Publishing, and that I hope they will follow me on my continued journey. I hope to, in two weeks have a major announcement about a developing partnership!
